There are many adults who played in jazz or concert bands in high school and college who are not playing professionally as adults but miss the joy of making music. There are many quality amateur organizations available for classical musicians, ranging from the Charleston Concert Band to the Summerville Orchestra and Mt. Pleasant Orchestra.

For those of you who enjoyed playing in jazz combos or large jazz bands throughout your high school and/or college years, there are no organized programs for amateur jazz musicians to continue performing their art.

The Charleston Jazz Academy is creating the Adult Jazz Combo to provide former jazz students and musicians a program where they can continue playing the music they love. In addition to expanding your jazz improvisation skills on your instrument, you will get the opportunity to participate in masterclasses.

The Adult Jazz Combo classes meets weekly for 90 minutes on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm at the Charleston Jazz Academy, 3005 West Montague Ave in North Charleston, just off I-26. Tuition is $75 per month.

If you have friends who may be interested in joining a CJA Adult Combo, share this info with them, too!
